Toyo Proxes R Specs

Please see below for technical advice and setup advice for best performance

The Toyo R needs more negative camber than the Toyo RR. Users should be approaching the new R like they would if they were to get a completely different brand and model tire: the R utilizes a different build and materials from the RR. So even though some users are getting away with not changing their setup from the RR, everyone should be taking some time to test the R and see what setup changes might complement performance and wear life.

The R is stiffer and has higher grip than the RR, so we have seen some cars needing extra negative camber to improve performance and wear. If they’re maxed out on negative camber, some users have been stiffening up bars and shock settings to prevent body roll and reducing the outside tire wear. Even though his temperatures are trending toward hotter insides than outsides of the tires, it’s not by much. In most cases we’re looking for a 15-30 degree temperature spread. The theoretical ideal situation is for the tread to be equal temperature across the width of the tire. But in real world circumstances when we’re using a probe pyrometer after a session ends, we have to consider the tires spending extra time on straightaways and wearing/heating up the inside portion of the tire. So for this reason, a gradual temperature increase across the tread, with the inside being 15-30 degrees F hotter than the outside is usually best.

On a side note, we’ve been hearing from drivers that when they drive smoother, the tire wear gets better as do the lap times. We visited a BMW CCA race at VIR about a week ago, the first and second place finishers had some of the lowest tire wear while turning the quickest lap times of 40+ cars. They said they simply drove smoother and tried not to push or slide the car around.
